Our Daily Bread: Technology in Food Production (Video)
Posted on June 29, 2009 by diane

Our Daily Bread is an award winning 2005 documentary directed by Nikolaus Geyrhalter that provides an unblinking look at modern food production. No voice overs, no music, just wide screen looks at how our food is produced (which involves surprisingly few humans you consider the sheer quantities of food we produce). Various farms and factories across Europe are featured. I think it would be wonderfully eye-opening to see a similar film based in the US, but I assume this is unlikely given the limited access to large scale processing plants allowed to our media.
Different aspects of agriculture and food processing are shown in Our Daily Bread:
* Pigs to meat
* Semen to pigs
* Semen to cows
* Cows to meat
* Cows to milk
* Eggs to chickens
* Chickens to eggs
* Chickens to meat
* Fish
* Crops and field harvests (misc)
* Tomatoes in rock wool
* Salads night harvest
* Peppers
* Cucumbers
* Apples
* Olives harvest
* Salt from mines
